Bright Nights Costs More This Year. Your Calendar Decides How Much You Pay.

October 22, 2026

Bright Nights at Forest Park opens Wednesday, November 25, the night before Thanksgiving, and runs through Sunday, January 3, 2027. The official dates and rates page lists general admission at $30 per car plus a $2 ticket fee. Last fall, the City of Springfield's 2025 announcement put the price at $25 plus $2. So a standard drive-through now costs $32 at checkout, $5 more than a year ago.

The full price applies from opening night through December 27. There are three ways around it. The season pass has to be bought by this Sunday. Big Y members can buy a $20 ticket. And the after-Christmas rate starts December 28. If your household makes more than one trip a year, or brings relatives through the lights, the date you buy and the date you drive now matter more than they did in 2025.

The deadline that arrives first: the season pass

The 2026 season pass costs $70. It covers unlimited visits during the season and includes one free car admission to give to family or a friend. The page says the offer expires November 1, 2026, and only the first 400 buyers can get one. November 1 is this Sunday, and the cap may be reached before then.

Here's the math at this year's prices. Two regular visits cost $64 and three cost $96, so the pass alone beats general admission on the third trip. Add the free car ticket, worth $32 at checkout before Christmas, and two visits plus the gift already come to $96 of admission for $70.

The pass comes with conditions that decide whether it works for your household:

  • It's issued to one vehicle registration, and you need the plate number, state, make, model and color when you buy.
  • It has to stick to the driver's side of the windshield, and it can't move to another car.
  • It's valid only for passenger vehicles that seat 10 or fewer.
  • You can buy it online or by calling Spirit of Springfield at 413-733-3800. It isn't sold at Forest Park.

WWLP 22News reported on October 15 that passholders also get access to special events at Santa's Magical Forest. If two drivers in the house each want to use the pass, it won't work, because it's tied to one car.

The full-price stretch is also the Santa stretch

From November 25 through December 27, everyone without a pass or a discount pays $30 plus the fee. That window is 33 days long, minus two closed nights, and it includes almost everything families plan around.

Photos with Santa run November 25 through December 24, 2026. The listed hours are 5 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The Santa's Magical Forest page lists earlier end times of 9 and 10 p.m. If a late Santa photo is the point of the trip, confirm before you go. The display itself runs 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 10 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays.

The activities page also lists Supper with Santa, Military & Emergency Responders Night, Zoo Night, horse-drawn wagon and carriage rides, and choral concerts. Dates for most of these are posted on their own pages, so check each one before building a night around it.

Here's how the ticket options compare:

Ticket Price Window Catch
General admission $30 + $2 fee Nov 25 to Dec 27 Buy in advance
Big Y advance ticket $20 Not listed Big Y membership; sold only at Big Y
Group tickets $25 each Not listed 25-ticket minimum
Oversized vehicle, 9 to 16 seats $50 + $2 fee Not listed Reservation required
Minibus, 17 to 31 seats / Bus, 31+ $100 / $200 Not listed Reservation required
After Christmas Sales $20 + $2 fee Dec 28 to Jan 3 Santa photos have ended

The Big Y advance ticket is the way to skip the $30 rate on a December weeknight with the kids. At $20, it costs the same as the after-Christmas rate without waiting for it. Every ticket, discounted or not, has to be bought ahead of time.

Two nights the lights stay dark

Bright Nights is closed Monday, November 30, and Tuesday, December 1. Those are the date and rain date for the Bright Nights 5K. Check-in starts at 5 p.m. at the 200 Trafton Road Gate by Cyr Arena, and the race starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Seuss Land Arch near Walker Grandstand. The fee is $85, and the race doesn't allow walkers.

If you were hoping to run it, registration is already closed. WWLP 22News reported that the 500 spots sold out before 8 a.m. on September 21. The station said the fee includes a shirt, a souvenir, a soup supper and a ticket to come back. The race page links to a waitlist.

For drivers, the closure matters because it falls in the first week, right after the Thanksgiving weekend. If you planned to use the Monday or Tuesday after the holiday for a quiet weeknight visit, move it to the Wednesday or later.

The cheapest week comes last

From December 28 through January 3, admission drops to $20 per car plus the $2 fee. That's $10 less than the full rate at checkout, the same lights at a 31 percent discount. The week runs Monday through Sunday and includes New Year's Eve on Thursday and New Year's Day on Friday. Holiday hours of 5 to 10 p.m. apply on those nights.

Santa photos end December 24, four days before this rate begins. That costs nothing for a household whose kids have outgrown Santa, or for adults bringing visiting relatives through the lights. For families with young children, the cheapest plan is usually a split. Use a Big Y ticket in December for Santa and the post-Christmas rate for the second lap.

The week also lines up with downtown. Grinchmas at the Springfield Museums runs November 21, 2026, through January 10, 2027. It has Dr. Seuss holiday decor, science and art activities, and a replica of Mt. Crumpit where visitors meet the Grinch. Grinchmas outlasts Bright Nights by a week, so a museum afternoon followed by a $22 drive through Forest Park works on any day of the closing week.

The cocoa stand is still an open question

The concession stand near the Santa hut may look different this year. MassLive reported on September 23 that Spirit of Springfield is changing its Bright Nights food vendor, and that the group's president, Judy Matt, offered the concession contract to Ray Berry of White Lion Brewing Co. The same report said his contract wasn't final yet, alcohol won't be part of the agreement, and the venture would run under the brewery's new hospitality arm. The handoff of the city-owned stand was still being worked out, and a day later MassLive reported that city officials were encouraging the parties to meet. Plan for the cocoa and cookies to come from a different vendor, or from a different spot, by opening night.

Getting in line

Whichever ticket you buy, the directions page sends cars to 295 Sumner Avenue. The line forms on Sumner Avenue, and cutting in from side streets isn't allowed. Weeknights in the full-price stretch carry the shorter 9 p.m. close. Fridays, Saturdays and holidays stay open until 10.

At this year's prices, a December visit on a Big Y ticket plus a second lap after Christmas comes to $42. Two full-price drives before December 28 cost $64.
